About the location

PCYC Bornhoffen is a gorgeous site in a valley in the Gold Coast Hinterlands nestled between Word Heritage listed Springbrook and Lamington National Parks, a few short kilometres from the NSW border. Set amongst stunning natural scenery, Bornhoffen prides themselves on caring for the land by restoring habitat for native flora and fauna, working with the local community to plant native trees and control environmental weeds. They provide detailed signage throughout the venue about the local environment and cultural heritage. Bornhoffen is primarily used for adventure development, school camp, outdoor recreation and family events.

Why did you choose Bornhoffen?

Dom worked for PCYC for almost 10 years, and in that time led a lot of youth leadership camps at Bornhoffen. She and a lot of people close to her have very strong feelings about the place! Moreover, it is a beautiful site with lots of different options for an event like this, like a basketball court, swimming pool, waterfall and creek; and activities we can arrange with their facilitators like abseiling, hiking, high and low ropes courses and a giant swing. The place isn't fancy, but it sure is fun, peaceful, and charming.

What are our options with accommodation?

PCYC Bornhoffen has two sets of cabin accommodation. One we'll be using for families (8 to 12 per cabin, more of a dormitory style - WAGAWN), and one for parties without children (6 to 8 per cabin, more separate from each other, HOBWEE). We've booked out the entire location, so you are able to stay in the cabins. If you're a small party you'll likely be sharing a cabin with another small party. We'll do some matchmaking and make sure you're either with people you know or people we know you'll like. The cabins are powered, but a hot tip would be to bring a power board along! Both Wagawn and Hobwee's cabins are accessible.

If that doesn't sound appealing, or you and your party would like a bit more privacy, you could also bring along your tents and camp out in one of two locations around the grounds - again, divided into families and parties without children. They don't usually allow camping on these beautifully manicured grounds, so this is a tents-only situation, not a van life situation. You could park a campervan in the parking lot, but we won't be driving vehicles all over the grass. Chat to us for more details.

If you're feeling both fancy and rich, we can book you a glamping tent where the company will provide you with a fully furnished bell tent all set up for you, but we'll have to ask you to cover the cost. Lots of options are available, and we'll talk you through them if that's your preferred choice. At the moment we're looking at Glamparoo if you'd like to see an example, but we're talking to a few companies. In the end, the more people who want to book glamping tents, the lower the price will be - if this is your choice, we'll keep you posted.

If you're feeling even fancier than that, by all means please book your own accommodation somewhere nearby - there's lots of choices up and down the mountains.

Let us know your choices when you RSVP.

What are our options for food?

Bornhoffen has onsite chefs as an option, and we've booked catering for the entire weekend. They will provide healthy(ish), hearty breakfasts, morning teas, lunches, afternoon teas, dinners and desserts. They are able to cater for the vast majority of dietary needs, allergies, and preferences. If you have specific requirements we'll need you to give us clear details in our RSVP form.

PLEASE NOTE: PCYC BORNHOFFEN IS A NUT AND ALLERGEN AWARE SITE – no nuts or food containing nuts should be brought in. This includes peanuts, peanut butter/peanut paste, satays, muesli bars/chocolate containing nuts and other nut products. Even if our group ends up having no-one with a nut allergy, this condition will still apply to help hundreds of young people stay safe and help them to reduce the possible risk of contamination of kitchen utensils/pots, cutlery etc. for groups that visit after us.

PLEASE NOTE: Bornhoffen is peaceful because it is a bit of a hike from civilisation. It could take 30 minutes to drive someone to a doctor, and up to an hour for an ambulance to arrive. If you or your child has an allergy or reaction to foods that might cause anaphylaxis, please bring at least two Epipens with you, along with your ASCIA Anaphylaxis Action Plan. If it is potentially life threatening, please consider bringing your own pre-cooked/pre-prepared food in sealed plastic containers which can be refrigerated and prepared on-site in Bornhoffen's commercial-grade kitchens - we don't want you getting hurt on our watch.
